These days, there is a huge choice of mobility scooters on offer – so much so that it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Mobility scooters are generally grouped into three categories: small scooters, medium scooters and large, road-worthy scooters.

Small scooters are the easiest to transport, and can often be dismantled into a folding position or separate parts for stowing in a car. These scooters are ideal for use around the home. They generally travel up to ten miles before a battery change is required.

Medium scooters are able to transport heavier weights than small scooters and can travel up to 6mph. They come in either class 2 or class 3 options; class 3 can be used on the road, providing it has tax. These are ideal for a day out at the shops, or short trips into town.

Large scooters are road-legal and can travel at speeds of up to 8mph. They are more suited to longer distances – usually between 25 to 30 miles before needing a recharge – and can handle rougher surfaces.
